Framme!
Arrived in Spain!
The drive to Santo Domingo went well except that I always get a little carsick when I go over the mountain towards Moca. A few tmes I had to tell Steve "I'm not in a hurry". We took a pit stop at Ikea so that Steve could use his credit receipt, which he said immediately upon arrival - they will surely say that it will not be valid. There were absolutely no problems and he managed to shop for more than he had on the credit. Seeing all nice thing made me wanted to buy a lot, I love Ikea and they have so many good and nice things. We had a light lunch at Ikea then we could continue towards the airport.
Since I had a lot of luggage I had to find a luggage trolley which I did at a cost of 150 pesos. Once the machine had chewed through my money it refused to give me a trolley, luckily there were several baggage guys on hand who were quick to help. After talking to a manager via walkie-talkie, I got my trolley. When everything was loaded on it it was time to say thank you and goodbye to Steve who wanted to speed back to Cabarete as fast as possible. Once inside the departure hall, I found no baggage drop or check-in for Air Europa and their office was closed. There were no chairs except at the restaurants so I sat at a table where I could park my trolley. I ordered an ice coffee which was almost undrinkable. Just after 4pm then the office was open and I was told that check-in starts at 5pm and where I could line up. There were more who were as early as I was. A man had an eye on my luggage so I could make a quick run to the bathroom, which I was so grateful for.
Once checked in it was just a matter of getting through security and passport control where I paid for the overstay before going to passport control, all went smoothly. Since the flight wouldn't leave until 8.50 pm I had several hours to kill. I decided to eat something so that I could sleep on the plane without being disturbed by the food cart. I took the cheapest I could find which was a small hamburger with fries and Coke for 16 usd. It didn't take long after the food was eaten that I had a stomach ache and had to run to the toilet several times. Luckily my stomach calmed down so I could board without toilet panick.
I sat almost at the back with a small child in front and one behind me, the one behind me amused himself by kicking me in the back until he fell asleep which took about 3 hours even though I told the mother about the kicking. I prayed to the universe that the next time the mother flies, she will have a kicking kid behind her. I dozed off but didn't get any longer and good sleep as I had hoped for. I sat by the window, which is both good and bad, the good thing is that I can lean on the wall, the bad thing is that I have to disturb the other two to go to the toilet. I didn't go to the toilet and neither did the other two during the whole trip.
We landed an hour earlier in Madrid cause we had a tailwind, that hour was spent getting off the plane into the departure hall, then I had another 4 hours to wait for the next flight. There weren't that many toilets, at least not in terminal 2 that I was in, of course there was always a long queue for the ladies no matter when I went. I saw several different stag and hen parties, two of them were on my flight to Malaga. We were ordered to line up for boarding long before it was time as the plane was delayed and the people on the plane had to leave before we could board. I was stopped in the hall into the plane because they wanted to check my cabin bag, they squeezed and felt my Buddha head. A little later the drug dog came to smell my bag just before I was about to enter the plane, both me and Mr. Buddha was able to board.
We left 30 minutes late, also on this flight I sat far back, so I was among the last people off the plane and to the baggage belt, which was standing still with only a few suitcases on it. It was more people waiting for their bags but nothing happened, the sign went off. I went to baggage service and there they asked - have you looked at belts 30-34, which of course I haven't. Apparently those of us who had come from outside the EU got our bags on a different belt for extra screening when we exited, Mr Buddha got through without a problem and so did I and the suitcases. In the end I was outside and could hug mum Yvonne and dad Ben then we could finally go home to Los Boliches. To get rid of the suitcases, I emptied everything that I put in piles to do later. I got a delicious dinner, toast skagen followed by salmon fillet, pressed potatoes and sauce. 9.30 pm then I was so tired that I fell asleep as soon as my head landed on the pillow.
