Towel as a doormat
I am grateful for every minute we have without rain. Ginger wants to go out for a walk so badly but it is not possible. I do not want to open the gate more than necessary and if Ginger jumps out through the door there is a risk that she will end up underwater and you do not know what is hidden in the water.
I checked out through the door in the gate a couple of times yesterday, one time a plastic flower pot came floating and I saw the neighbor's garbage barrels bobbing around in the water. I moved our big barrel to the other corner of the garbage station, I thought about putting the lid inside first but then the barrel would be 5-6 kg lighter and might float away if the weather gets bad so I left it on the barrel. The next time I looked out our mega-sized garden waste barrel was bobbing in the water in front of the gate, we use it to put palm leaves in it. Luckily it had moved this way so we wouldn't have to look for it at the end of the street, it's marked with Casa Almendra stickers so you know who owns it.
We managed to have several hours without rain, even though the forecast said it would rain at 4pm, the rain waited until 6pm to come. The weather app said rain all night until lunch today but thankfully that doesn't seem to be correct. Despite more rain, the water level has dropped by 5cm, the gate's motor is now free of the water but it seems that the button that we open the gate from the inside doesn't work but the gate still has electricity so thats good.
This morning Seija found our large garbage barrel in the water without garbage and without a lid, I should have taken the lid in and the barrel yesterday after all.
Since it didn't rain this morning, I started the "re-furnishing storage room" project. I put things on the terrace outside but I was careful to place things that we don't want rain on under cover. Of course, it came a rain shower in the middle of everything, but it was short-lived. When we moved into the house, there was already a large deep shelf in the storage room, it has been in the same place ever since, today I moved it. I imagined that it should be at the very back of the storage room so that it feels more open and a little brighter. In addition, I took down three wardrobe doors that have been on the shelf since before we bought the house. Seija and I agreed that we should throw away the doors, an Ikea parasol and a few other small things. We have a lot to throw away in our storage room by the gate as well, when everything has returned to a little more normal, we will book Misael to collect all the garbage.
The storage room is not in tip-top shape yet, as what needs to be thrown away still has to be stored there because the other storage room is filled with water. Everything became a bit better after I had reorganized everything on the two smaller shelves that we also have in the storage room. When I ran in and out at one point I saw that our gate was completely open, Seija had not opened it. It was not possible to close it with the control so I had to wade through the water to the gate and put the motor in manual mode to be able to close the gate. No point in messing with it now when the situation is still the way it is.
Ginger occasionally rattles around in the water, we have few "dry" places so today she chose to pee with her bottom in the water. As soon as the sun tries to peek out as it actually does right now then she lies down in the sun to enjoy it. It will be a while until we can take a "normal" walk around Procab, hopefully we can do it next week.
One of our palm trees that died when lightning struck it fell straight into the water the other night, hitting the tin roof of the outdoor room first. Now the trunk is floating around in the water along with a lot of other things that have fallen during the heavy rain.
